Sept 7
I woke pretty early this morning after having a very restless night. David had a rough night too and finally fell asleep around 5 am. I finally woke him and Avi at 9:30 a.m. We rallied ourselves the best we could and ate breakfast at the same place we did the day before. I really enjoy the lattes but it kind of ends there for me. Today, I'm not loving the food. The flavors are strange to me and everything is so heavy. The salads are exceptional though.
After breakfast, we went and picked up our rental car. We decided to leave it there while we went to the Temple of Zeus since it was a short walk from the car rental and parking in Athens is NOT easy. The Temple of Zeus has mighty columns and is just incredibly huge. After the views there, we went back and picked up our car and headed to the Temple of Poseidon, about 40 miles out of Athens. The view of the Sea while driving was breathtaking. The Temple sits on a peninsula that juts out into the ocean and has the sea on all sides. It was so windy that it almost blew us off the mountain but the beauty and majesty of it all is hard to absorb. We hiked both sides of the mountain and had lunch there. Again, didn't really love the food and my stomach is starting to create war with me. Avi got separated from us at one point, David went after him and then I didn't know where they were. Avi had hiked over the mountain and down as low as he could go and was having a moment with the ocean. I had a bit of frustration and concern and was upset for some moments. But we recovered and enjoyed a beautiful day.
Came back and started looking for a parking spot. Oye Vey. You need more than parking karma to park here. We were starting to despair when someone left their spot and David, with his genius parking skills was able to put our car into the spot with a few inches on each end. His ability to drive here and park is nothing short of awe inspiring.
Found ourselves a very authentic Greek restaurant to eat dinner. Good food but more of the same. Not loving it. Not sure why. Lots of meat and I don't enjoy the flavors much. I'm longing for food from home. I hope I feel different as time goes on.
Justin and Casey have a new baby at home and Tilly has developed chicken pox and Casey has shingles. I'm so concerned about them that it is coloring my experiences. But I'm here and am going to try to find a way to see the beauty in the moment.
